To study theology is to study God, not for the sake of information but for transformation. When we study His Word in humility He comes to form Himself in us so that our lives can support the message that we bring.
The School of Theology exists to create opportunities for theological engagement; both through informal courses and formal academic programmes. We aim to develop ministers, thinkers, worshippers and scholars with the competence, character and courage to be faithful stewards of God’s Word in the Church and the world.
ministry training programme
Our Ministry Training Programme (MTP) gives those who sense a call to the full-time ministry the opportunity to grow in the devotion and ability needed to serve God’s Kingdom. This multi-faceted programme, aimed to form students in character and skill, includes elements of practical ministry engagement, campus and community life and disciplined study. During the first year, students complete an accredited Higher Certificate in Christian Life. Students also have the option to complete a second year, which includes a diploma year in theology, as well as a third year, resulting in a degree in Theology. The formal study component is presented in partnership with the South African Theological Seminary. Students of the Shofar Institute will reside on campus in Franschhoek, South Africa.
year for the nations (letsgo global)
Letsgo Global is a programme focused on and structured around mission, which gives those who feel called to the mission field the opportunity to serve different churches and church plants in Malawi, the Netherlands, UK, Namibia and here in South Africa. During this year they have the opportunity to gain practical hands-on ministry experience in different contexts, both in Shofar congregations and with our mission partner churches in Africa or Asia. The Letsgo Global interns spend time at our Shofar Institute campus where they will complete the ministry training programme (MTP), School of Worship, and various theological short courses hosted by respected scholars such as Dr Corné Bekker from Regent University. The journey of a Letsgo Global intern is an opportunity not only to be equipped and trained but to reach the nations.
