school of worship

While talking to a woman drawing water from a well, Jesus shared an insight that would transform our understanding of worship: true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, because those are the kind of worshipers He’s looking for. Spirit and truth… have you ever wondered what that really means? In a culture of bright lights, celebrity bands and big stages, do we really know what true worship is? What does it look like? What does it sound like? Join us on a journey of becoming the kind of worshipers the Father seeks…

The School of Worship is an initiative of shofarband, a group of musicians from Shofar congregations around South Africa, who desire to see people set free to passionately worship God as they encounter the liberty that His presence brings (2 Cor. 3:17).

School of Worship has two main components: the Weekend Retreat and the online course.

The Weekend Retreat is an opportunity to take a break from the noise and “busyness” of the daily routine. Retreats are usually 1-3 days long over a weekend, and we spend time in worship, prayer, light teaching and fellowship together as we grow deeper in our understanding of worship in Spirit and truth. Retreats are always a highlight – you don’t want to miss out!

Weekend Retreats are presented at various locations throughout the year. Check the “Register Now” tab to see upcoming retreats. If you don’t see one in your area, you can invite the School of Worship team to present one by emailing info@shofaronline.org.

The online course gives you access to 18 online sessions covering Prophetic Creative Ministry, Songwriting, Theology of Worship, Facilitating Worship, Music Theory, Sound & Music Production, Musicianship, and more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to work together on a Creative Project. You may purchase the online course here.

We strongly encourage participants to complete School of Worship in a group, for example as a local church worship team. You can invite the School of Worship team to present a Weekend Retreat at your church, and you can gather weekly to watch the online course together. More details and tips for doing School of Worship as a group can be found when purchasing the online course.

Do I need to be a musician / in a worship team to attend? No – everyone who wants to learn more about worship is welcome! However, the focus of the course is raising up worshipping musicians and singers, so a lot of the course content is centred around topics like worship team dynamics, musicianship, applied music theory, etc.

Do I need to be a member of Shofar to attend? No – everyone who wants to learn more about worship is welcome!

Can I skip the weekend retreat and only do the online course? Although you’re welcome to do the online course in your own time, the weekend retreat lays an essential foundation for everything that is shared in the online course. Therefore we strongly encourage those who would like to start the online course to first enquire about the possibility of a weekend retreat in your area.

What happens if registrations are full? Send an email to us at info@shofaronline.org if you want to be put on the waiting list in case there are cancellations.
