As we believe that God has called us to seek the welfare of the city to which He has sent us, we found Him opening doors to minister to and encourage the women in our city who are stuck in the sex industry.
We joined hands with Cherished SA to help women who are sexually exploited and have experienced abuse and intense trauma. Cherished aims to reach, restore, and equip women to live purpose-filled lives.
Our volunteers join the team on monthly outreaches to the brothels and strip clubs in our city where we have the opportunity to connect with the ladies and pray for them. Ultimately our heart is to journey with women on their road to restoration, if they so choose.
In a recent outreach, we arrived at a strip club in Rivonia. Unfortunately, we were too early as not all the ladies had yet arrived for work, only one was there. We gave her a gift (as we do for the women each outreach) and shared our word of encouragement. Just before we left, however, we felt to ask her, “How are you really? How is your heart?”. At that point she began to weep because she said no one around her seems to care how she is doing and actually she’s been experiencing suicidal thoughts. We proceeded to pray with her and then asked her if she would accept Jesus into her heart to which she replied “Yes!”. She accepted Jesus that night and we could even see how her eyes physically lit up with hope. Jesus goes after the one!
On another occasion, we had a lady from one of the brothels in Randburg reach out saying that she really desires to escape the industry. It turns out that she’s seen our team faithfully ministering across different brothels over 9 years, but it was only this year that she found the courage to accept a helping hand to get out. We were reminded that although we might not see fruit after each outreach, God is sowing seeds beneath the surface as He faithfully pursues His beloved daughters’ freedom from captivity.
