Reflecting on God’s goodness and faithfulness in 2023

Louis and I were blessed with the arrival of our double rainbow baby. Our son, Samson Joshua May was born on the 18th August 2023. Samson’s life is already such a testimony of God’s faithfulness.

His story starts back in 2020, when Louis woke up in the early hours of the morning and wrote down promises God spoke to him for us. The next morning Louis shared with me what the Lord said to him, “You will have a son, and his name will be Samson.” We were in complete awe, firstly for the promise of a child, and then a promise of a son. Wow! But, then if I’m honest I did question the name. Are you sure Lord? Samson? That’s very different. But God knows me well and is gracious with me, as he gave me a few years for the name to grow on me.

The amazing thing about God is, that He is all knowing and ever present. He knew that through our two miscarriages in 2022, which brought much pain and sorrow, we needed a promise to hold on to. A promise that allowed us to never lose hope as we waited steadfastly on the promise that God gave us. A promise of our son, Samson.

The name Samson is a Hebrew name meaning ‘like the sun’ – our prayer is that just as Jesus Christ says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) So our prayer is that Samson will reflect the light of Christ.

Then for his second name we wanted a name that glorifies the Lord. Joshua is also a Hebrew name meaning, ‘Jehovah is salvation’. This is the truth of the gospel, John 3:16, that through what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross, those who believe in Him can have eternal life with God the Father.

Our prayer is that Samson will personally receive Jesus Christ as His personal Lord and Saviour one day and then share the truth of the gospel with others. We trust that our story may encourage someone who reads this not to lose hope, but to put their trust in God, for He is faithful.
