home to the homeless

Shofar Bellville is one of the newer members of our church family, but the congregation is already having a massive impact on it’s community – a spiritual home for the homeless.

by Conrad Foord (Shofar Bellville)

“Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.” Psalm 41:1

What started as a joint outreach with Metro Evangelical Services (MES) to the approximately 700 people living on the streets of Bellville’s CBD has grown into a sustainable ministry. We held our first church services outside Bellville Station and then moved through various venues until we finally found a permanent home in a beautiful old church.

We’ve had the great privilege of seeing people’s lives literally transformed. We still rely on volunteers for prayer support and meals, but we’re seeing more and more members take ownership of their church. Some are already ministering to others and have joined in a prayer outreach. We also had the great privilege of celebrating our first wedding in May!

Since the church’s official plant in November 2012, members and volunteers have witnessed God’s faithfulness in prayer, the healing power of His Word, and His immense love. Being able to eat together and celebrate our faith in a building we can call our own reminds us that God gives abundantly according to His riches in glory.
